A long weekend is a great time to get away with the fam or friends. If only burglars thought the same! An empty house can be a tempting target, so here’s 6 simple ways to help keep your home secure next time you’re away for an extra-long break.

1. Get smart about locks

Ensure external doors and windows have solid locks plus a smart lock can also let you know if someone’s home. And don’t forget to check they’re locked before you leave –it happens!

2. Hide your most cherished valuables

Keep valuables such as jewellery, electronics and cash out of sight…and no, not under the mattress. Consider investing in a safe or lockbox to keep your most valuable possessions safe.

3. Watch what you put in your bin

Be mindful of what you’re throwing away. Putting empty TV, computer or gaming system boxes in your rubbish is a good way to advertise your expensive new purchases.
